WASTE TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL

ZERO LANDFILL

Our goal is to remove as much trash out of the landfill because it is a very unpleasing picture. How can you turn that waste into a resource? We help our customers meet their sustainability goals everyday by implementing our Zero Landfill Solutions program. We look at every waste stream and provide the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly option to reduce waste to the landfill.

WASTE MINIMIZATION AND POLLUTION PREVENTION

In order to become a leading provider of waste management services, BES promotes policies designed to enhance the environment and encourage waste reduction and recycling. We will come to your facility to measure, analyze, and evaluate your current waste generation practices. The goal is to increase our customers’ efficiency without sacrificing safety, quality, or environmental responsibility.

HAZARDOUS WASTE

The determination of hazardous waste requires knowledge of the waste’s origin. Therefore, the regulation of hazardous waste is important to the protection of the environment and all living creatures. The EPA has established characteristic hazardous waste on the basis of four properties: Ignitability, Corrosivity, Reactivity, and Toxicity. The EPA developed strict requirements for the treatment, transportation, storage and the disposal of hazardous waste. We provide proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste for the federal government, local and state municipalities, manufacturers, research laboratories, trucking, schools and universities, and many private and non-profit enterprises.

We can handle the disposal of most waste codes in all size containers (i.e, drums, totes, CYB, as well as bulk tankers):

Flammables (Waste Paints, Thinners, Adhesives)
Waste Water (>90% water and low percentage of Organics)
Corrosives (Waste Acids, Caustics)
Oxidizers (Waste Peroxides and Reactives)
Toxic Wastes (Poisons, Metals & Other Listed Hazardous Wastes)
Medical Waste (Sharps, Spent Pharmaceuticals, Photographic Chemicals, & Dental Amalgam)
Non-Hazardous Wastes (Petroleum Contaminated Soils/Waste Oils & Oil Filters)
Special Waste (Batteries, Fluorescent Lamps, Asbestos, Mercury-Containing Instruments)

Lab Packs (Institutional & Laboratory Chemicals in small containers)
Pressurized Cylinders (Including Lecture Bottles and Aerosol Cans)
Low-Level Radioactive Waste (Hospital Waste, Instrument Sources & Depleted Uranium Counterweight)

LAB PACKING

We respond to environmental concerns with an efficient and professional approach. BES field chemists are fully trained, certified, knowledgeable, and experienced to complete projects in a safe and cost effective manner. This service is a time saving and cost-effective option for the disposal of unused, out-of-date, or unknown chemicals. We will protect your company from costly and dangerous waste handling mistakes.

BES handles lab packing projects from start to finish:

Waste Characterization. Trained field chemists will take a complete inventory of the materials to be discarded. For unknown wastes, sampling and testing will identify the appropriate disposal method. Once the material is identified, BES will complete a profile and receive an approval number for the waste.
Segregation and Consolidation. Chemicals must be segregated into groups according to their DOT hazard classes. Chemically compatible materials are collected, identified, and packaged together into DOT approved containers.
Labeling and Documentation. The containers are then labeled per DOT and EPA requirements. BES will complete a Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest and Land Disposal Restriction form.
Shipping. The generator will sign the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest and the Land Disposal Restriction Form. The transporter will sign the Manifest and give the generator the original copy. The transporter will placard the truck if needed.
Disposal. The chemicals are handled using the latest and best demonstrated available technology such as Fuel Blending, Neutralization, Incineration, and Landfill.

SUSTAINABILITY

Did you know? Small businesses can typically save as much money and prevent as much pollution, per square foot as large organizations.

At BES, green isn’t just a passing fad or a marketing gimmick. We embody our operations with a spirit of environmental stewardship. We understand that true success hinges on our ability to responsibly minimize our environmental impact while providing quality service.

Our clients look to us to help with their sustainability efforts too.

A good waste management plan will emphasize waste minimization to decrease the volume of waste generated and reduce the toxicity of those wastes. The EPA has identified 31 Priority Chemicals (PCs) in our nation’s products and wastes that need to be eliminated or substantially reduced in production. If these chemicals cannot easily be eliminated or reduced at the source, we focus on recovering or recycling them.

Through our Green Is Good (GIG) campaign, we help:

Decrease air pollution, water pollution, ozone depletion and global climate change.
Reduce health problems associated with allergens, chemical sensitivities and contaminants, such as mold and bacteria. Our cleaning products contain low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) levels that emit fewer fumes and are gentler on your facility.
Reduce costs to building management, tenants, and/or janitorial company, including costs associated with sick leave, health care, and productivity loss. In addition, BES uses energy-efficient equipment and focus on preventative maintenance to reduce expenses. BES is an active participant in the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® program. ENERGY STAR® offers real benchmarking and analysis for member companies. We analyze our clients’ buildings and recommend options to improve energy efficiency.
Enhance an organization’s reputation and brand equity, because being socially conscious has become a desirable business trait.
